Depicting A Mother Duck and Her Ducklings, painted around 1895.

Constant David Ludovic Artz, 1870–1951, a Dutch painter and watercolorist, best known for his depictions of ducks by the water. Born in Paris, he was the son of David Adolph Constant Artz (1837–1890), a prominent painter of the Hague School, under whom he studied from a very young age. In 1882, at the age of twelve, he enrolled at the Hague Academy of Fine Arts. He later worked in Tony Offermans’ studio. He also received guidance from Willem Maris. It was under Maris’s influence that he specialized in painting families of ducks in their natural environment. He closely observed their behavior and captured it in countless variations. Although he also painted landscapes featuring windmills and seascapes, the theme of ducks by the water remains his primary subject. His work is considered part of the Dutch Impressionist movement and is appreciated for its tender and natural depiction of everyday life. Artist listed in the Bénézit. Valued on Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
