Paul Prévôt, 1879–1961, born in Villers-Guislain, was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Roubaix, where he graduated first in his class and was awarded the Gold Medal for Painting in 1906. He later studied under Léon Bonnat and Luc Olivier Merson at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1906 to 1914, he exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he was awarded the Silver Medal in 1914. Known as the “painter of weavers,” he painted numerous works depicting the working class, portraits, and religious works that can be found in many churches and museums in northern France. With 12 medals to his credit, he was nominated five times for the Prix de Rome. As a military medic during World War I, his drawings and paintings bear witness to the “Gueules Cassées” (the disfigured soldiers) and were used in reconstructive plastic surgery. He became an Official Painter and created paintings depicting the horrors of the conflict, such as *Les Culottes Rouges*, which can be seen today at the Musée du Service de Santé Militaire in Paris. Once the war ended, he came to the aid of the wounded and maimed who lacked financial resources. He was one of the organizers of the Salon des Blessés in 1925, a benefit exhibition and sale held at the Grand Palais in Paris. He worked as a decorative painter and taught drawing and painting for the City of Paris. He is listed in the Bénézit art encyclopedia and is featured on Artprice, Artnet, etc.
