Beautiful Arita Dish, Kakiemon Design & Color, Lake Plants, Japan, Edo Period, 19th Century
Artist: Fours D'arita
A large, cylindrical dish with a flared base, resting on a slight pedestal. The design, featuring aquatic plants and a stream, is rendered in cobalt blue, iron red, and Kakiemon cyan blue, with gold highlights. The rim is adorned all around with a fine cobalt blue line. On the back, the less elaborate decoration consists of three branches bearing flowers and fruit. Cobalt blue circles appear on the rim, around the design, and in the center.
In good overall condition, with no breakage or major flaws, but a few minor firing flaws—characterized by charcoal flecks—present in several places. I’ve clearly marked these in my detailed photos; please look at them carefully—I’m not hiding anything!
Japanese piece, dating from the mid-19th century, Edo period.
Dimensions: 31 cm in diameter. Height: 5 cm.
