Large Japanese Porcelain Vase In The Kutani Style With Polychrome Floral Decoration

This impressive large Japanese porcelain vase is richly decorated in vibrant polychrome enamels in the traditional Kutani style. The generously proportioned ovoid body is covered with an abundant and lively floral composition painted against a striking iron-red ground, creating a bold and highly decorative visual effect.

The surface is beautifully adorned with a profusion of flowering branches featuring peonies and chrysanthemums, two flowers deeply symbolic in East Asian decorative arts. The peony, often known as the “king of flowers,” represents prosperity, honor, and beauty, while the chrysanthemum is associated with longevity, refinement, and the elegance of autumn. These blossoms are rendered in a wide palette of vivid colors including yellow, pink, white, blue, and purple, each carefully outlined and highlighted with delicate shading. The flowers are interwoven with finely painted branches and lush green foliage, creating a dynamic garden scene that wraps around the entire vase.

The neck is finished with a turquoise geometric band that frames the composition, while a classic key-fret border encircles the base. The underside bears a stylized seal mark typical of Japanese decorative porcelain.

Substantial in scale, standing over 40 cm in height with a similarly generous diameter, this striking vase makes a dramatic decorative statement and is ideal for displaying in a large interior or within a collection of Asian decorative arts.
