Vivianites From Brazil - Natural Crystals That Form On Dead Organisms

Vivianite, a crystal that forms around corpses. Such is the legend—and yet, it is true.
This mineral forms in an environment rich in iron and phosphates—that is, in deposits rich in organic matter, whether animal or plant-based (wood).

Origin: Cabeza Do Cacchoro Mine, State of Amazonas (Brazil). Collected by a geologist in 2021. Oolitic ferruginous matrix, resulting from sedimentation and high organic matter content (predominantly wood and peat).
A true natural geological curiosity, associated with death.

Crystals have been found on mammoth carcasses, as well as on the bodies of American soldiers who served in Vietnam in 1968 and were discovered in 1998. The body of Ötzi, the 5,300-year-old “Iceman” from the Italian Alps, also contained them.
