Agnus Dei In Leo XIII Wax
Beautiful Agnus dei in wax consecrated by Pope Leo XIII (256th Pope: 1878-1903,in an original double-glass oval frame and surrounded by a red cord and a large stylized floral wreath in gilded paperolles. Blackened wooden wand.
Also known as "Martyrs' paste", this medallion is traditionally made of white wax mixed with catacomb dust.

The Agnus Dei, usually oval in shape, have been solemnly blessed by the Pope since the 16th century. Their manufacture and papal blessing stopped in 1964 under Paul VI. However, the tradition has not been officially abrogated by Rome, but is awaiting a new papal will.
