Oval Biedermeier Side Table, Cherry Wood Veneer, 1825
Oval side table from the Biedermeier period, circa 1825. The tabletop is veneered in cherry wood and framed by an ebonized border that runs all the way around it.
The table rests on four curved saber legs. They are connected by ebonized crossbars that intersect at the center, providing stability to the base. The perimeter band is also veneered in cherry wood and follows the oval shape of the tabletop.
The contrast between the light cherry wood and the black edges and crossbars is characteristic of the Biedermeier style.
The table is suitable as a side table, coffee table, or centerpiece in a living room.
