Chinese Flowering Tree Carved From Hardstone – Circa 1920–1940

An elegant miniature Chinese tree carved from hard stones, created during the first half of the 20th century, circa 1920–1940.

This particularly rich and colorful composition features an abundance of blooms crafted from various semi-precious and hard stones—rose quartz, amethyst, agates, carnelian, and green stones—showcasing the materials’ natural transparency and hues.

Each petal and leaf is individually cut and polished, then mounted on slender metal twigs carefully wrapped in green thread. Small yellow stamens dot the flowers, adding a touch of delicacy to the overall piece.

The trunk, realistically modeled to resemble ancient bark, branches out into numerous limbs, giving the composition the appearance of a real tree in bloom.

The piece is presented in a rectangular planter with four legs, adorned with panels of green hardstone and a gilded metal frame finely engraved with floral motifs and Chinese-inspired geometric friezes. The base is entirely covered with small multicolored stone chips.

A very beautiful Chinese decorative object, remarkable for the profusion of its blossoms, the variety of its stones, and the balance of its composition.
