Vase Impérial En Porcelaine De Sèvres - Medallion Signed Virginie Boquet - Napoleon III Period
Important decorative porcelain vase with an imperial blue background, resting on a square base with rich gilt bronze mounts, and adorned on the front with an elegant painted medallion depicting a young woman in the galant taste of the 18th century.
The portrait, treated with great finesse and delicacy in the spirit of Boucher or Fragonard compositions revisited under the Second Empire, is signed "Virginie Boquet", a miniaturist and porcelain painter active in the 19th century.
The quality of the decoration is remarkable: deep cobalt blue known as "Sèvres blue", rich gilded framing with rocaille motifs alternating matte and brilliant golds, delicate garlands and finely executed frames. The overall elegance is highly representative of the great decorative productions of the Napoleon III period.
The inside of the neck bears a red underglaze mark with the crowned imperial N, accompanied by the words "Porcelaine Sèvres" and the date 68, presumably corresponding to the year 1868 during the reign of Napoleon III.
A spectacular and refined decorative piece, bringing together the quality of the great French porcelain of the Second Empire and the charm of 18th-century-inspired feminine scenes.
