Rare La Rochelle-style stew spoon in solid silver from the Louis XVI period, featuring a fillet design. The spoon blade is engraved with a monogram. Hallmark (crowned "H") and discharge mark (dolphin’s head) for LA ROCHELLE 1781–89, guild mark for LA ROCHELLE 1784 (griffin with the date “84”) and the hallmark of Master Silversmith Jean-Baptiste CHASLON, who was licensed to practice in La Rochelle in 1760.
