Blood Jasper Signet Ring Set In Yellow Gold, Napoleon III Period

Antique signet ring crafted from 375/°° yellow gold (9 KT, clover hallmark), set with a large heliotrope jasper, commonly known as blood jasper.

The stone, cut into a large oval slab with a polished surface, features a deep green background naturally dotted with reddish-brown inclusions characteristic of this variety of jasper. Since each stone is unique, the irregular distribution of these hues gives the ring its distinctive character.

The jasper is set in a simple bezel setting, whose yellow gold outline subtly highlights the stone’s regular shape and dark hue. The setting features a design similar to that of a signet ring, with a slightly raised mount and balanced lines.

The shoulders are adorned with a symmetrical motif of stylized acanthus leaves, finely chiseled and punctuated with small striated details. This botanical ornamental motif, combined with the overall simplicity of the composition, is characteristic of jewelry from the Napoleon III era, which readily drew inspiration from ancient and neoclassical motifs.

Despite the striking presence of its oval setting, the ring maintains a relatively low profile and sits harmoniously on the finger. The contrast between the soft hue of yellow gold and the deep green of the blood jasper lends it a discreet elegance.

The inside of the setting bears a sentimental engraving reading “Je t’aime,” accompanied by the date 1946. Added after the ring was created, this inscription serves as a touching, intimate testament to the immediate postwar period and is part of the piece’s unique history. It may be preserved for its evocative quality or, upon request, removed by our workshop.
