A canoe prow shaped like a crocodile’s head, collected in the Iatmul area in Papua New Guinea. To this day, canoes remain the most common means of transportation in the Sepik River valley. Most of these canoes used in the Lower and Middle Sepik regions have a carved prow depicting a crocodile, an animal both feared and revered. Wood with signs of use.
