Old sago pounder made of two pieces of wood joined by a complex bamboo weave and finished with a stone. This tool is used to peel the pulp from the hearts of the sago palm to extract the starch, the basis of the sago cake consumed daily. Signs of use. Collected in the Upper Sepik area in Papua New Guinea. Displayed and sold with a base. Field photograph by David Godreuil.
