Statue representing an anthropomorphic spiritual ancestor, referencing a founding myth of the clan of origin. Collected in the Murik Lakes area in Papua New Guinea (Sepik River estuary). Human body with scarifications and a bird-beak shaped nose. A fruit bat (endemic species) head is present on the front. Animistic beliefs are thus very often evoked in Papuan sculptures.
