War Mask, Guéré-wobé People, Ivory Coast
War mask depicting a face with bulging, horizontally slit eyes. The forehead is domed and marked by a double vertical rib running from the top of the head to the base of a broad nose. The mouth is open, and beneath it, a goatee made of plant fiber remains. A nailed fabric roll extends from below the ears across the forehead. This is likely what remains of the headdress.
This mask still retains much of its original polychromy (blue, red, yellow, white, and black).
