Puiforcat: Solid Silver Ice Set With Putti And Flowers

Spectacular solid silver ice cream set by PUIFORCAT in the rare “FLEURS” design. An extremely rare set consisting of 12 ice cream spoons and a serving scoop—a total of 13 pieces—with rocaille-shaped spoon heads in vermeil (gold on silver). The spoon handles feature a putto holding a branch in each hand (the branches intertwined along the stem), with a second putto suspended above, holding a flower stem. There are 6 different flowers (thus 6 sets of 2: rose, poppy, carnation, pansy, daisy, chrysanthemum), and as a grand finale on the serving spoon, the putto holds a sample of all 6 flowers (see photos). On the back of the spatulas is a putto amidst reeds and pebbles, all surmounted by a bird.

The set is presented in its original-shaped case made of beige velvet and silk, sold by Maison Gervais in Toulouse.

Minerva hallmark (1st Title, .950) and hallmarks of Master Silversmith Emile PUIFORCAT (hallmark with the initials “EP” and a pocket knife from 1857).

An extremely rare model listed in David Allan’s reference book, p. 390, which features the finest examples ofFrench silverwork. This set is so rare that Mr. David Allan had to settle for reproducing the catalog page due to a lack of actual pieces. About ten years ago, we sold a “Service à Fraises” set of this model, and we now have the opportunity to offer you the “Service à Glace”
