Julien Garnier (1859–?) Stream In The Woods ~1900 Creuse, Sarthe. Crozant School, Jeannot

An EXTREMELY RARE and superb large watercolor by Julien Garnier, depicting a small, wild stream in the woods around 1900, signed in the lower left corner.
Dimensions of the watercolor alone (unframed): 38x56 cm; 59.5x76 cm including the frame.
In very good original condition, delivered in a gold-leaf frame with a mat, without glass to prevent damage during shipping.

This is indeed a very rare watercolor by Julien Garnier; I’ve only come across three in 25 years.... Here, the artist paints a very lovely landscape featuring a stream and waterfall in the woods, most likely in Creuse or Sarthe—the two regions he painted most frequently. His technique is, of course, impeccable, worthy of the great watercolorist he was; indeed, watercolor would be his primary medium—even though he produced a few very rare oil paintings—and it was as a watercolorist that Garnier made his name.
Born in Saint-Georges-le-Gaultier in the Sarthe department, he later lived in Rouessé-Vassé, also in the Sarthe. Julien Garnier soon moved to Paris to receive a solid education at the Académie Julian. However, Julien Garnier never made a full-time living from his art, as he was employed by the City of Paris. 
Nevertheless, this did not prevent him from exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1889 and 1922; he even became a member in 1900. 
Julien Garnier thus frequented the Creuse Valley at the very end of the 19th century and created superb watercolors there, in the style of his compatriot Joseph Jeannot. 
He is therefore naturally associated with the Crozant School; you can see a superb watercolor depicting the Brigand Mill in Crozant from 1906, reproduced on page 49 in Christophe Rameix’s book "The Crozant School," published by Souny.
He also painted the ruins of Crozant, the banks of the Sedelle, and so on...
Julien Garnier had a brother, Marcel, who also painted, though he tended to work in oils.
