"Ernest L. Bonnotte (1873-1954) Farmyard, Burgundy. Pointillism Dubois-pillet, Hayet Luce"
Very beautiful oil on panel by Ernest Lucien Bonnotte representing a farmyard or castle in Burgundy, circa 1910, signed lower leftSize of the painting alone without frame 33x25cm and 43x35cm including frameThis is therefore a magnificent divisionist composition by L.Bonnotte who paints here an extract from a Burgundian residence around 1910, as usual we immediately recognize his very divided touch, as usual he also plays skillfully with the support by leaving subtle reserves. His palette is obviously very colorful. A clever mix between pointillism and synthetism, or between Dubois-Pillet and Le Sidaner. A true little pointillist masterpiece that has nothing to envy from the masters of this movement such as Henri Martin, Achille Laugé, Maximilien Luce, Léo Gausson, Louis Hayet or Dubois-Pillet, except that Bonnotte is much more approachable than all these painters. I only briefly present Bonnotte, a famous Burgundian pointillist painter. Born in Dijon, he then studied in Paris. He was very quickly influenced by the first neo-impressionist painters such as Seurat and Signac and quickly adopted his divisionist touch, which he only abandoned at the end of his life when it expanded and became very stylized, a bit like other famous divisionist painters such as Léo Gausson or Maximilien Luce. His work is sometimes comparable to that of Gustave Loiseau, and other times more to Henri Martin, or even Le Sidaner or Dubois-Pillet as is the case in the work I am proposing. His favorite motifs will be partly Burgundy and Brittany. He will exhibit in many salons, will even have a certain success, before falling back into oblivion. Today known only by a handful of amateurs, it is only thanks to his excellent technique, professionalism and the rarity of his paintings that some occasionally achieve very good results at sale. However, he is among the rare true French pointillist painters who painted between 1885 and 1910. Painting in very good condition, we see slight defects in the wood but it is wood therefore imperfect, no restoration. Delivered in a contemporary frame. Work guaranteed authentic
