Belgian painter, draftsman, watercolorist, and decorator. From 1900 to 1902, Jean Van Looy studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he benefited from the teachings of Constant Montald and Herman Richir. A member of the Brussels artistic circle Le Lierre, Jean Van Looy participated in numerous group exhibitions from 1907 to 1941, as well as in the salons of the Brussels artistic and literary circle. At the 1914 Brussels Salon, he exhibited The Laundress and Still Life. At the 1930 Salon des Artistes Français, his painting "Waterfowl" won the silver medal, as well as the Yser Prize. In March 1964, Baron Steen organized a retrospective exhibition of the works of Jean Van Looy, one of the last representatives of the Tervuren School, at Avenue Louise.
