19th-century Fan Frame With An 18th-century Engraving Of A Hound Hunt By J-b Oudry

Artist: Jean-baptiste Oudry
This is a fan-shaped frame, a type of 19th-century wall frame specifically designed in the shape of a half-moon or an open fan, which holds an 18th-century engraving of a hound hunt by Jean-Baptiste Oudry. The engraving depicts a scene from the start of an 18th-century hound hunt (Louis XV/Rococo period), which was highly prized during the Second Empire and the Third Republic for interior decoration.
It features all the hallmarks of 18th-century Rococo—aristocratic horsemen in their tricorn hats and tailored coats, ladies in riding dresses on horseback, a pack of hunting dogs, the hornblower blowing his hunting horn in the foreground (on the right), and the peasant tipping his hat as the nobles ride by (on the left).
