18th Century. Nicolas Perignon. Set Of Three Framed Engravings
Artist: Nicolas Perignon
Alexis Nicolas Perignon (1726–1782), born in Lorraine and died in Paris, was a painter, architect, and engraver who traveled to Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. He brought back numerous sketches from these trips.
He was admitted to the Royal Academy in 1774.
Here we present three small engravings in a format reminiscent of that of an illustrious predecessor from Lorraine, Jacques Callot, depicting modest huts in the countryside—a subject that would not have displeased him.
All are signed in the lower right corner “Perignon fecit”; the first is signed “NP 1772” on the right side of the plate, and “18” between the two.
They have been beautifully mounted together in a panoramic frame, with a mat border featuring pen-and-ink lines and watercolor.
This demonstrates the interest the former owner took in these lovely prints.
The frame is a bit worn but still very presentable; the engravings and the mat are in very good condition.
