Rare reliquary of the Three Wise Men – 17th/18th century

Rare reliquary containing relics attributed to the Three Wise Men: Saint Balthasar, Saint Gaspar (Caspar), and Saint Melchior, identified by their authentic handwritten labels in Latin: S. Balthasar R.M., S. Casparis R.M., and S. Melchior R.M. (R.M. stands for Rex Magus).

The relics are arranged in a meticulous composition, embellished with twisted metal wires and background paper, in accordance with the practices of 17th- and 18th-century monastic workshops. The entire piece is preserved under glass in a silver-plated metal frame.

The reverse side retains its red episcopal wax seal and silk ties, attesting that the reliquary has never been opened since its ecclesiastical authentication.

This piece is particularly sought after due to the rarity of relics of the Three Wise Men, which are very uncommon on the religious art market.

Condition:

In good condition. Complete reliquary, intact wax seal with normal signs of wear consistent with its age.

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale pertains solely to the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not part of the transaction but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
