Painting By Paul Riquet, 1900, Art Nouveau, Nymph, Love, Putti, Children, Cherub, Boucher, Fragonard
Artist: Paul Riquet
Oil on canvas by the painter Paul RIQUET (1860–1937), depicting a nymph surrounded by cherubs or cupids in the 18th-century style, inspired by the “Rococo” works of BOUCHER and FRAGONARD, portraying an idealized scene.
Paul RIQUET lived in Paris in the Montparnasse district, which, even as early as the late 19th century, was home to several painters’ studios.
Paul RIQUET was a student of HENNER and GALLAND.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and was awarded a medal in 1906.
His artistic practice spanned military and bourgeois portraits, scenes inspired by the 18th century—as is the case with this painting—and decorative painting.
To date, only about thirty works—including both paintings and drawings—have been identified.
Paul RIQUET proves to be a rare artist.
This oil painting is signed lower right: P. RIQUET and dated 1900.
It is in its original condition; there is a very small, insignificant loss of paint on the left.
This painting is presented in a frame that appears to be more recent, made of carved, stuccoed, and gilded wood.
Dimensions with frame: 63.50 cm x 51 cm.
Dimensions of the painting itself: 53 cm x 41 cm.
