Object description :

"André Bloc (1896-1966) Abstract Painting, Mondrian, Le Corbusier, Vasarely Design"
Very beautiful abstract oil on canvas.

The work is treated like a stained glass window, with numerous vibrant colors.
The use of bright colors with strong contrasts is remarkable, creating a true harmony.

Geometric abstraction is typical in the works of André Bloc, representing a fusion between art and structure.

The work is signed on the back. I am unsure if it is original or a later attribution, but the style, technique, and period perfectly match the artist.

The long rectangular painting is in very good condition.

Dimensions: 80 x 40 cm

André Bloc (1896–1966)

A key figure in 20th-century art and architecture, André Bloc worked to abolish boundaries between disciplines. Architect, sculptor, painter, designer, and influential publisher, he co-founded the Espace group in 1951, advocating for the integration of art into the city and everyday life. His work, deeply committed, combines plastic expression and social awareness.

Born in Algiers in 1896, trained as an engineer, he was influenced in the 1920s by Perret and Le Corbusier, which led him to turn towards architecture. By the 1940s, he also developed a sculptural and pictorial work characterized by monumentality and the freedom of forms. His house in Meudon, the Villa Bellevue (1949), manifests this dual vocation: fluid architecture, modern materials, sculptural furniture, and integration with nature. Classified as a Historic Monument, it also houses his famous Habitacles, organic forms halfway between sculpture and architecture.

A pioneer of modern publishing, he founded the magazine L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui in 1930, then L'Art d'Aujourd'hui in 1949, becoming an essential critical voice in post-war architecture and art.

Beyond the press, to spread his avant-garde ideas, André Bloc gathered around him a circle of artists who embraced the spatialist movement, seeking to integrate art into architecture. Sonia Delaunay, Victor Vasarely, and Jean Gorin were among those who joined this intellectual movement. Named "Espace," this group of artists championed the ideas of constructivism.

His work, exhibited from Nice to Tehran, and from Dakar to Jacksonville, was always guided by one ambition: to make art a catalyst for world transformation.
His work has been presented in the largest museums, such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, which held a retrospective in 2015.
He passed away in New Delhi in 1966, leaving a resolutely modern and transdisciplinary legacy.
