A Chrysoprase-green Opaline Glass Ashtray With Gilt-bronze Mounts, Charles X Period
A low, circular table ashtray in chrysoprase-green (or citron-yellow-green) opaline, encircled by a chiselled and gilded bronze mount decorated with friezes of godrons and latticework. The upper rim features a cigarette rest in the shape of a stylised shell, made of gilded bronze. The whole rests on three small claw feet in gilded bronze.

During the Restoration and the reign of Charles X, French glassworks (notably those at Bercy and Choisy-le-Roi) developed new, very luminous shades of opaline glass, amongst which chrysoprase green and the yellow-green shade known as ‘cédrat’ enjoyed phenomenal success.
