In the 19th century, Bohemian master glassmakers were renowned throughout Europe for the virtuosity of their coloured-lined glasswork and the precision of their wheel-engraving. These souvenir goblets, engraved with portraits of statesmen, sovereigns or views of thermal spas, were prestigious items highly prized by high society.
Our red-lined glass tumbler, which draws on the great tradition of 19th-century Bohemian art glass, showcases the excellence of the wheel-engraving techniques of the period, combined with the intense ruby hue characteristic of Central European glassware.
