Pewter JUG known as a “Stegkanne,” baluster-shaped with a pedestal base, featuring a long, faceted spout with a spout cap connected to the neck by a molded arm, a spinning top-style lid, and an S-shaped thumb rest with a molded ridge. Stepped handle.
Engraved owner’s mark: H.S.H / 1762.
Hallmark of Pierre André UTIN, who became a master around 1715: a crowned rampant lion / ANDR(E) (UTI)N/ 1736.
Height: 30.4 cm.
VEVEY (SWITZERLAND), mid-18th century.


In perfect condition, with a brilliant finish.
This type of ewer originated in the Netherlands during the Middle Ages. A similar design can be found later in Rembrandt’s still lifes, for example.
