Impressive 17th-century Louis XIII chest of drawers in walnut

A rare and elegant Louis XIII chest of drawers in solid walnut, dating from the 17th century, featuring remarkable carving and excellent condition.

It opens with a large door adorned with molded panels featuring geometric designs in high relief, with a magnificent upper panel carved in a star pattern and a lower panel with diamond-shaped points. The sides are also paneled and decorated with raised lozenges, reflecting exceptionally meticulous craftsmanship.

The piece is crowned by an imposing overhanging cornice resting on a frieze adorned with rectangular medallions and diamond-shaped cabochons, typical of Louis XIII furniture. It rests on a sturdy molded plinth finished with four original ball-shaped legs.

The chest of drawers features a wide drawer in the lower section, retaining its original drop-down handle. It has its period lock as well as a functional key. The interior is fitted with several shelves, offering ample storage space.

Crafted from solid walnut, this chest of drawers features a beautiful antique patina and is in excellent condition, with only the normal signs of wear expected in a piece of furniture that has endured for over three centuries.
