Renaissance-style Wardrobe After Hugues Sambin

A magnificent Renaissance-style armoire, after Hugues Sambin, crafted in the 19th century in the spirit of the great French Mannerist masters of the 16th century. It masterfully reproduces the decorative codes so dear to Sambin: an abundance of figures in the round, powerfully sculpted atlantes and caryatids, mascarons, scrolling foliage, and grotesque vegetal motifs, all arranged in a dense and perfectly symmetrical architectural composition. The spectacular crowning element, flanked by fantastical figures, reinforces the theatrical and monumental dimension characteristic of works inspired by Sambin. The deeply carved door panels feature finely modeled figures within an extremely refined Mannerist setting.
