A British sculptor based in Paris since the 1950s, Roy Adzak is one of the leading figures in kinetic sculpture and research on visual perception. Beginning in the 1970s, he collaborated with the Daum crystal glassworks, which translated his research on the human face, transparency, and the effects of light into crystal. The interplay of polished and satin-finished surfaces creates a shifting image that appears differently depending on the viewing angle—a hallmark of his work. The small models produced by Daum, signed by the artist and engraved with “Daum France,” are now highly sought after by collectors.
