Pair Of Large, Hand-carved Candlesticks (swiss Black Forest Style), Late 19th–early 20th Century
Two foxes, perched on rocks, against a hollowed-out tree trunk that holds the flared vase, rejoice at the sight of their future meals; numerous floral and foliage motifs make up the design, the result of long hours of manual labor.
Various carving tools were used to create this piece, a true masterpiece of Hugler-style craftsmanship. These carved wooden objects, known as “Black Forest” carvings, originate from the Brienz region of Switzerland.
In good condition, considering the age and type of object. The stands have very slight chips; the vases are in perfect condition.
