An exceptional and rare large glazed ceramic planter (or ball vase), entirely created and signed by the renowned American designer and artist Hilton McConnico (1943–2018).
This centerpiece is part of the highly exclusive “Pour Tennessee” collection, produced around 1990. Born in Memphis, the designer conceived this series of earthenware pieces as a tribute to his American roots. It showcases his genius for blending traditional folk art with the bold freedom of postmodern design.
A superb monochrome glaze in bright red / oxblood contrasts with the side handles, which are entirely hand-carved in the shape of chili peppers. Their two-tone green and yellow glazing creates a bold and dramatic color contrast, an iconic signature of the artist. »

In very good vintage condition, with no cracks or restoration. The enamel has a beautiful luster.” The reverse side of the pot bears handwritten inscriptions incised by the artist directly into the enamel: “Hilton McConnico / For TENNESSEE / hand-painted”.
