From a noble family in Clermont-Ferrand
The painter Benoît Blanc, also known as Benoni, was born on March 21, 1812, in Gémenos (Bouches-du-Rhône) and died in 1887.
A painter of portraits and landscapes, he was admitted to the art school in Marseille at the age of eight. In 1832, he traveled to Rome, where he worked under the guidance of Horace Vernet before attending Ingres’s lectures.
He returned to Paris and devoted himself to portraiture; his primary goal was to capture a strong likeness.
Among these portraits are Count Amédée de Forbin; Mr. R. Bérard; Admiral Bruat; and the Marquis de Tressemanne
