- This chair is known as a “Couillard” due to its backrest, which rests on a front leg. Its elegant form stems in part from the combination of tapered vertical lines (armrest supports, legs) with the flowing lines of the belt and backrest. Carved motifs adorn the woodwork: fluting and scalloping on the armrests and legs, moldings on the scalloped belt, framed circles on the spandrels, Greek frets on the armrests, and interlacing on the basket-shaped backrest.
