The Woman With The Lute - Vase, Royal Dux Bohemia, Art Nouveau, 1900–1910

A figurative Art Nouveau vase depicting a young woman sitting under a tree, with a lute resting on her lap. The composition features soft shapes and subtle lines, rendered in a palette of warm beiges and off-white. The upper section, shaped like a vertical wall with irregular contours, forms the interior of the vase. The entire piece is adorned with naturalistic plant motifs.

Mark: a pink triangle bearing the inscription “Royal Dux Bohemia” and an acorn, as well as the model number “1707” in relief.

This piece comes from the Czech Royal Dux Bohemia factory, whose origins date back to 1853 in Duchcov (German: Dux). Around 1898, the factory, led by Eduard Eichler, began producing artistic porcelain, distinguished by its soft, flowing forms and a style typical of Art Nouveau. Pieces from this period often depict allegorical figures of women and young men, presented in a poetic and introspective atmosphere.
