Palace Vase, Marble And Gilded Bronze, By F. Barbedienne, Second Half Of The 19th Century.

An imposing amphora-shaped dish, crafted from green marble with a highly pronounced veined pattern. The body is framed by a rich gilded bronze mount.
The handles, shaped like goat heads, are particularly striking. This motif draws on classical and Renaissance traditions, often revisited in neoclassical art.
The body is adorned with a vine garland that winds around the vessel. This ornament serves both decorative and symbolic purposes (references to abundance, nature, and ancient traditions).
The form, the combination of materials, and the quality of the casting and gilding are all examples of the excellence for which the Parisian firm Barbedienne is renowned.
