Brass Crucifix
A Rococo-style brass crucifix, made in France in the late 18th century. The crucifix rests on a base featuring palm leaves and a shell against an Amati-style background. The cross is supported by two putti, with Adam’s skull positioned at the same height. Christ is nailed to the cross with the perizonium open over his right thigh. With a slender, sinuous figure, Christ is surmounted by the Latin Titulus: ‘I.N.R.I.’ ‘Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews’.
