Pair Of Baroque Putti In Lacquered Wood
Pair of Baroque Putti in Lacquered Wood typical of Baroque religious art. They have rounded figures, rosy cheeks, and curly brown hair. They are arranged side by side in reclining or floating positions. The upper putto wears a Sienese yellow drape around his hips, while the lower one has a dark green drape. Both have their arms and legs arched in dynamic poses. The surfaces show clear signs of aging, with small cracks in the polychrome paint (crazing), widespread wear, and slight losses in the paint layer that reveal the underlying ground. Both are missing the wings that were originally present but were artificial and not part of the original work; indeed, the shoulder blades show no trace of the original attachment points (they were secured with small nails). Both have glass eyes. The putto with the yellow drapery shows evidence of an old restoration at the right armpit. Both cherubs have visible losses on their fingers. Italy, 1600
