According to Hindu mythology, Nandi is a protector of the god Shiva. Nandi is a mythical bull who helps him fight against demons and evil. Temples dedicated to Shiva are often adorned with statues of Nandi. This sculpture of Nandi is painted with a predominantly white pigment that symbolizes purity and justice. Near the back it has a hollow compartment. In good condition consistent with the date, it has cracks in the wood and the ends of the horns have been repaired. India 1800s.
