Pol Chambost (1906–1983) Model 807b Pitcher, Ca. 1950. Jouve, Gatard, Capron, Besnard, Guéden....
Artist: Pol Chambost (1906-1983)
Another lovely piece by Pol Chambost—this time a pitcher with a green lid, model 827B.
Height: 25 cm
In very good condition, with just two tiny chips about the size of a pinhead.
The piece is unsigned, but this is common with Chambost; the pitcher is 200% guaranteed authentic.
I’m showcasing it alongside another pitcher of the same model with a matte yellow glaze, from the same source—though that one has already been sold.
Pol Chambost needs no introduction—he was a famous French ceramicist from the 1930s to the 1970s, best known for his creations from the 1950s and 1960s, a period when he rivaled Jouve, Gatard, and Mado Jolain. He began by working for Colette Guéden in the 1930s and 1940s, then founded a studio in Ivry toward the end of the 1940s, very close to Jean Besnard’s; their work was, in fact, quite similar during this period. He then began producing pieces with very modern shapes and colors. He collaborated with Jouve, Matégot, Roulot, Fouquet, and Pouchol. He later settled in the Périgord region.
