Nandin (also known as Nandi or “Nandishvara”): In Indian mythology, a bull, the mount of the god Shiva and guardian of his abode on Mount Kailash. He symbolizes devotion, strength, serenity, and controlled energy. The figure of Nandin also symbolizes the liberated human soul. The effigy of Nandin is often placed in front of the temple entrance, facing the main building.
