Plate With Murugan, India, 19th/20th Century

The central element of the decoration is the figure of Murugan/Karttikeya, the Hindu god of war who restores divine order. He embodies valor, beauty, and wisdom. He is depicted with his mount, the peacock.
The rest of the decoration consists of small panels arranged all around the main motif. The spaces are filled with stylized plant scrolls and birds. The alternation of metals in different colors is a key element that brings dynamism to the overall design.
