Artist: Alphonse Henri Nelson (1854-1919)
Solid bronze sculpture representing a Gallic rooster with raised wings. The rooster holds in its right paw a parchment on which is written the date of the day: March 18, 1895.
The document in question has been placed on a pile of books. Juxtaposed with a laurel branch, it constitutes the proper subject of the work. It is probably the decree of reinstatement of the inhabitants of Alsace-Lorraine of the same year. The whole is placed on a stone base.
Signature: H. Nelson Alphonse Henri Nelson (1854-1919) is a French artist, student of Aimé Millet at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1882, he regularly exhibited his works at the French Salons. In 1889, he received a citation at the Universal Exhibition. He specialized in figurative sculpture.
