Raymond Dierickx : "the Procession Of The Virgin"
RaymondDierickx (1904–1978) “The Procession of the Virgin,” pastel and charcoal, 50 × 71 cm view on paper, 55 × 73 cm, mounted on a pH-neutral mat, 60 × 80 cm.
Leaving the church, the procession sets off behind the effigy of the Virgin Mary under a glass dome, which the bearer’s large hands hold.
This wonderful Belgian artist was a true discovery for us !
Even when found as loose, dusty sheets, these drawings, once prepared andframed, reveal the full extent of Dierickx’s talent, which is akin to that of artists such as NicolasEeckmann, Fritz Van den Berghe, Constant Permeke, or othertypically Flemish Expressionists such as Anto Carte, depicting festivals, processions, and fairs in the great tradition of Flemish painters dating back to the 17thcentury with the Brueghels, yet rendered with great modernity.
Otherfacets of his work reveal his fresco designs and large-scaledecorative pieces, often exotic in nature, while in his early watercolors, one find a Symbolist vein with elongated forms.
We dedicated an exhibition to him (PDF catalog available by email)featuring the first works we discovered, but we have acquired many more since then !
In partnership with Galerie Lafouresse, we specialize inpaintings of the Basque Country, the Landes, and the Arcachon Basin.
Please feel free to ask us for photos or additional information via email or phone.
More photos and many other items are available in our Pau store and on our Proantic website.
