“LargeMoroccan tray”: scalloped and chiseled copper, 50 cm in diameter and 3.2 cm deep.
Marked “Fès” in Arabic and French and “MAROC”; some traces of a previous cleaning with a product that left a bit of verdigris in places.
The richly detailed chiseled design features stylized flowers and foliage around the rim, arranged in 36 radiating registers emanating from a center with a domed navel, encircled by two friezes of stylized foliage and scrollwork.
Morocco has a long tradition of copperwork, and the creations of its master chiselers rival those of goldsmiths in the quality of their craftsmanship; ourtray, a prestigious piece, is a perfect example of this.
