Accolay, A Set Of Two Anthropomorphic Glazed Ceramic Sculptures From The 1960s
Set of two anthropomorphic glazed ceramic sculptures signed by Accolay.
Both pieces feature a vertical silhouette with a triangular base, rendered in a decorative and sculptural style. One depicts a female figure with black hair, an elongated face, and geometric blue, green, and black decoration. The other depicts a figure wearing a tall black hat, with red, black, and cream decoration arranged around a circular opening.
Accolay’s pottery is part of the postwar revival of French ceramics. Based in the Yonne department, this production center was founded by four former students of Alexandre Kostanda, a leading figure in Vallauris ceramics. Beginning in the 1950s, Accolay developed a style recognizable for its free-form shapes, graphic designs, and preference for figurative or stylized pieces.
