Eugene Ladreyt, Pair Of Statuettes, Terracotta Figures, Peasant Man And Peasant Woman, 19th Century

Artist: Eugene Ladreyt 1832 - 1898
Pair of polychrome glazed terracotta figures depicting a peasant couple, each carrying a basket-shaped pannier.
They are signed "Eug Ladreyt" on the base.
We note a few small chips in the glaze, including one on the tip of the woman’s nose, as well as a chip on the rim of the man’s basket (see photos).
The price reflects the condition.

Eugène Ladreyt was born on October 31, 1832, in Sauzet in the Drôme region and died on March 28, 1898, in Paris.
He was a French cartoonist, sculptor, and ceramist.
From 1876 onward, he devoted himself primarily to sculpture and created statuettes and groups in polychrome terracotta, several of which are in the Valence Museum and the Montélimar Museum.
He received an honorable mention at the 1878 World’s Fair and a silver medal at the 1885 World’s Fair, as well as the Order of Arts and Letters (Officer’s Palm) in 1890.
