Large Polychrome Porcelain Basket - Kg Lunéville, XIXᵉ Century

Artist: Jos Conrad

Important openwork basket in polychrome porcelain from KG Lunéville, oval in shape, adorned with finely modeled rams' heads in side grips, enhanced with gold. The modeling is particularly expressive: gilded horns, delicately sculpted muzzle, coat treated in fine relief - work typical of the manufacture's ambitious pieces.

The interior decoration features a central medallion with attributes of music and arms, surrounded by garlands of roses and foliage, in a fresh, well-preserved palette. The openwork border, punctuated with alveoli and pink and gold fillets, emphasizes the lightness of the piece.

On the reverse, the basket bears the mark "Demi-Porcelaine France" and the handwritten signature "Jos. Conrad -( local painter located in Bitschwiller (Alsace), active in the early XIXᵉ century) confirming a careful and identifiable production. Bitschwiller-lès-Thann is a French commune located in the Mulhouse catchment area and part of the European community of Alsace, in the Grand Est region. This commune is in the historical and cultural region of Alsace.

***The Lunéville faience factory was founded by Jacques Chambrette around 1728/1730 , in Lorraine.

In the XIXᵉ century, the takeover by Sébastien Keller , then the association with Guérin in 1832 , gave birth to the famous K&G brand.

K&G production lasted until the beginning of the XXᵉ century, with a notable influence on decorative styles, notably Art Nouveau .

In 1832, industrialists Nicolas Keller and Guillaume Guérin took over the manufacture and gave it considerable expansion. K&G Lunéville became one of the most important French faience manufacturers of the 19th century.
