Jean RACINE,a monument, if I may say so, to French literature! With thiswork, the sculptor pays tribute, a hundred years after the publication of hispenultimate tragedy, to its author.
In this rigorous and imposingimposing sculpture by Louis-Simon BOIZOT, let's remember the verse from Esther, whose libretto he holds in his left hand, the calamus in his rightright hand, as if he had to make some correction before the 26th January 1685, the sacred tragedy (whose theme is taken from SacredScripture, not Greek mythology) was performed for the first time
Ne cherchentons la félicité que dans la paix et l'innocence
Esther, 11,9
