Second Half Of The 19th Century Painting With Florentine Landscape
Elegant oil painting on canvas, housed in a
contemporary carved and gilded wooden frame. The painting depicts
late-19th-century Florence, with the Arno River and its banks in the city
center, including the Uffizi Gallery, Piazza dei Giudici, and the Palazzo della
Signoria, while the Ponte Vecchio can be seen in the distance. At the center of
the work is a boatman, rowing on the river. This painting, in addition to being
of great taste and refinement, demonstrates remarkable skill and stylistic and
realistic rendering of forms. It also represents a historical testimony of the
period, such as the presence of a platform with steps that allowed access to
the Arno, now no longer visible. The artist, whose signature is present at the
bottom left, is Paolina Poli, a renowned Florentine painter and one of the
leading female landscape painters of the period. Florentine manufacture, second
half of the 19th century.
